The Autonomous Community finances with 22,458 euros the program of the Autonomous Federation of Gypsy Associations FAGA, `Edukaló', for gypsy children in the municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar, through the social projects of the X Solidaria del IRPF.
The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, together with the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, recently visited the FAGA project in the town 'Edukaló', a comprehensive school support program aimed at preventing absenteeism and the improvement of the academic performance of the gypsy students.
Violante Tomás explained that "we start from a positive vision of the Roma population that leads us to value and respect their particularities, weaknesses and strengths, culture and idiosyncrasy, to define strategies and design activities, and this, always in connection and harmony with reality multicultural that takes place in neighborhoods and schools. "
It is the fifth consecutive course that San Pedro del Pinatar hosts this project that has been consolidated in these years as a mechanism to prevent absenteeism and help students on their way to secondary education, and even after it, that is, to achieve academic success.
The mayor explained that the Edukaló project is included in the measures of the Municipal Plan for the Prevention and Control of Absenteeism (PAE).
In addition, the City Council provides the classroom of the Leisure and Emerging Arts Center for tutorial workshops for these students and provides the collaboration of the Local Volunteer plan.
FAGA's work is carried out continuously throughout the year, by the educational agent, a new figure that relieves the school mediator and establishes itself as the central axis of this strategy.
Attending to those children who attend school regularly, their mission is to form and consolidate communities of students and families to present them as positive and accessible references to other students and families, generating a called effect, through word of mouth.
