The students of Cartagena, have visited the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of San Pedro del Pinatar to know 'in situ' the process of water reuse.

The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Angel del Amor, received, accompanied by the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitation Martinez, the youth of the Center for Early Childhood and Primary Education 'La Asomada', in Cartagena, and He was in charge of explaining the process and the importance for the Region of water sanitation.

This plant treats more than three million cubic meters of water per year, disinfecting it in its entirety and reusing it for irrigation.

The week prior to this visit, these students received in the classroom the theoretical subject corresponding to the use and service offered by the sewage treatment plants.

After the activity, they went to the Regional Park of the Salinas of San Pedro del Pinatar as a complementary experience in knowledge about the fauna and flora of the Region, as well as to promote practices of care and respect for natural environments

"These students are an example of citizenship, they have grown up with the idea of ​​improving the Mar Menor and La Manga and have already collected 134 ideas to enhance the environmental and tourist future of the Murcia coast," said Del Amor. expose the need to use biodegradable materials and sunscreens as well as the care of the flora and fauna of the area.

They also propose promoting public transport, renewable energies and the bike lane, reward the work of volunteers who take care of the marine environment and raise awareness about universal accessibility.

The Region has a total of 93 treatment plants distributed by the 45 municipalities.

The degree of coverage of the purification system to the population is 99.3 percent and 98 percent reuse, the highest in Europe.
