San Pedro del Pinatar, against gender violence (30/11/2018)

The Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Francisca Pelegrín, today presided over the commemorative event to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

During the ceremony, held this morning in the municipal tent of the Fairgrounds, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the 46 women who died in 2018 due to gender violence.

Francisca Pelegrín has reiterated the commitment of the City Council to continue working in the training of professionals and prevention in risk groups.

Thus, from the City Council works throughout the year focusing on prevention and education based on values ​​of equality.

For its part, the mayor has read the institutional manifesto, which this year is an appeal to not remain silent in the face of the barbarism that leads us to say: #OBSERVA #ESCUCHA # CUÉNTALO.

And to maintain the unanimity to denounce and condemn the mistreatment;

to send a message of support to the victims who suffer it;

to remember that it is a shared problem;

so as not to close your eyes, ears and lips in the face of macho violence.

As well as recognizing the work of all the professionals who work every day with the common goal of ending gender violence;

and recognize the courage of women survivors of violence who know how to empower themselves and rebuild their lives.

In this commemoration have been present representatives of the Municipal Corporation, neighbors and students of all schools and institutes of the municipality that have collaborated in the act with the reading of phrases against gender violence and claiming real equality, choreography and performances.

The program of activities organized by the Department of Social Welfare for the commemoration of November 25, has included workshops on the prevention of gender violence for students of ESO, talks aimed at families to improve emotional relationships, and workshops in collaboration with the Gypsy Development program and for students of the monitor and free time workshop.
