The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar urges the joint and urgent action of all administrations to address the Mar Menor crisis (16/10/2019)

The City of San Pedro del Pinatar has held an extraordinary plenary session to analyze the situation of the Mar Menor after the episode of environmental crisis that left thousands of dead fish and crustaceans last weekend on the shores of the beaches of Villananitos, La Mota and La Point.

The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, has affirmed that "the state of environmental emergency and the critical situation of key economic sectors in the locality, mainly the fishing one, oblige to demand immediate and urgent actions for the recovery of the Mar Menor, from all competent administrations. "

Thus, Visitación Martínez has stated that from the City Council a Renewal Plan for the Sanitation Network will be developed and support measures will be adopted for affected sectors such as fishing, tourism and commerce;

charged to the 2020 budgets.

In addition, it has urgently requested the Autonomous Community, the application of the Decree of Urgent Measures, the elaboration of the Decree Law of Integral Protection of the Mar Menor and direct aid to the fishing sector.

As for the central administration, the mayor has requested the urgent launching of the 0 Discharge Plan to the Mar Menor, with the inclusion of waist channels in the municipality for the collection of rainwater and a branch from the El El Rambla Albujón to the Arco Sur sweetener.

In addition, he has asked the Ministry of Ecological Transition for the urgent regeneration of the Mar Menor and the beaches of La Puntica, Villananitos and La Mota.

The Segura Hydrographic Confederation has also been urged to urgently lower the water table of the aquifer to stop freshwater and nitrate contributions;

to Maritime Captaincy, for the elimination of illegal anchorages and the Demarcation of Coasts, to the cleaning of sludge and sludge.

Likewise, the City Council of San Pedro del Pinatar collaborates with the investigation initiated by the judicial authorities to clarify the causes of the biggest environmental crisis in the Mar Menor, added Martínez Visitation that has requested that action be taken quickly and diligently to recover of this ecosystem and support for the most affected sectors.

The mayor has also thanked the tireless and dedicated work of all the agents involved in the cleaning of the local beaches since last Saturday.
