San Pedro del Pinatar joins the Earth Hour (18/03/2016)

Earth Hour is a campaign by conservation organization WWF to combat climate change, which every year the cities around the world show their support for the campaign by turning off the lights of their main monuments and buildings to demonstrate global support action against climate change.

This year, San Pedro del Pinatar joins the Earth Hour as a gesture over the involvement of the municipality in measures of energy efficiency and emission reduction.

This commitment began with the accession of the municipality to the Covenant of Mayors which brings together thousands of local and regional authorities with a voluntary commitment to implement on their territory the climate and energy targets of the EU.

Such a gesture has resulted in the approval of a Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy City with the goal of reducing CO2 emissions and the implementation of concrete measures replacing streetlights with more efficient.

This effort continues with the adoption of a Sustainable Urban Development Strategy and Integrated municipality established a protocol integrated and participatory to meet, among others, environmental and climate to build a sustainable future aspects.

Therefore, on 19 March, from 20:30 to 21:30 hours, the lights of the Plaza Luis Molina and the City Hall went out from the Department of Environment, are invited to pinatarenses to join this symbolic gesture and contribute to the campaign "Earth Hour".
