The Regional Park of Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar'Semana celebrates the Posidonia' (12/07/2016)

The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment has organized various activities in the Regional Park of Salinas and Arenales of San Pedro del Pinatar, on the occasion of the 'Posidonia Week', aimed at families.

The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of conservation of this native plant of the Mediterranean, which brings numerous benefits for fishing and tourism.

Until July 17, from 9:00 to 15:00 hours, will take place at the Visitor Center 'Las Salinas' an activity called 'Posigames' games to enjoy life and learn to develop them using remains of the marine plant Posidonia oceanic.

On Wednesday, June 13, a tent called 'The treasures of a natural beach' on the beach of Tower Demolished, from 10:00 to 13:00, to provide information on the plant it will be installed.

On Sunday, July 17, will be held a guided bike entitled 'Pedaling to Punta Algae', from 9:30 to 12:00 pm with a tour of nine kilometers, low difficulty route, which ends in a of the wildest beaches of the region.

The recommended minimum age to participate is eight years (968 178 139).

oceanic Posidonia

In the Region of Murcia are some of the best Mediterranean Posidonia, which provide shelter, food and areas for egg laying to many species of molluscs and fish.

More than a thousand species of animals are related to these grasslands.

As plants produce large amounts of oxygen and fix CO2, which contributes to reducing the greenhouse effect.

They are fundamental to capture sand and other suspended particles and therefore its presence indicates that the water is clean and the beaches are natural sand.

Plant mountains that form on the shores of the beaches, called arribazones, slow erosion of the waves on the coast.

Also a pantry are small marine animals, which in turn provide food for protected bird species.

In the Regional Park of Salinas and Arenales of San Pedro del Pinatar conservation of plant remains of oceanic Posidonia is very important for the conservation of beaches.

Therefore, the Administration, during the summer season only removes arribazones in specific areas where not affected the beach.
