The Carnival Welcome Gala honors the Queens of the last 25 years (25/02/2017)

The municipal tent hosted this show in which the battle between Don Carnal and Doña Cuaresma was recovered, the Mask of the Carnival was given to Fina Sánchez Montoya and the local groups that participated in the parade next Sunday were presented.

The municipal tent hosted last night a Welcome Gala to the Carnival loaded with news and in which was paid tribute to the 25 years of Reinas del Carnaval in the town.

The gala started with a spectacular battle between Don Carnal and Doña Cuaresma, in charge of Ballet Kebanna, who used the dance to represent this bloody confrontation.

Later, the Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the Councilor of Celebrations, Javier Castejón presented the Mask of Carnival 2017 to Fina Sánchez Montoya, founder of the comparsa "La Nueva Ola del Mar Menor", a grouping that Parades in the town since 1999.

What was born as a family comparsa soon became a reference in the Carnival of the whole region, thanks to its spectacular walls, the visibility of their costumes and their flashy choreography.

Another of the most emotional moments of the night was the homage to the Carnival Queens since 1992, recalling the fantasy costumes that won the title and were given a small gift for their participation in the Pinatarense Carnival.

The first Queen of the Carnival was Silvia Egea (1992), of the comparsa Amas de Casa, with the costume "Escarlata O 'hara";

Who would follow, in 1993, Marisol Arenas, of the same comparsa with "Fantasia de Fresa, also by the same designer.

In 1994 the winner was Nuria Mateo, of the comparsa "Ni fu ni fa", with a design by Eustaquio Espinosa, who would also design the costumes of the following queen Ana Escudero (1995), with the comparsa of Maribel;

María José Albaladejo (1996), with "Ave en el Paraíso", by the compása Destello, and Carina Arce, from Los Molinos in 1997.

Laura Meroño would win the title in 1998, with "Fantasía Veneciana", by comparsa "Como tú quieras", and 1999 would leave two queens Carmen Montiel, from "Como tú quieras", and Leonor García, from "La nueva onda del Mar Menor ";

While in 2000 the reign would be for Tania Cárceles, from Los Molinos, with "Cava Burbujeante" and in 2001 for Elisa Galera with the fantasy "Luz de luna", from "La Nueva Ola del Mar Menor".

In 2002 the Reign went to Alicia Rios with "Cleopatra Queen of the Nile", of the Housewives and in 2003 for Maria Bataller with "Dreams of Gladiator", of Whichever you want, both designs of Eustaquio Espinosa;

The fantasy "Flora goddess of the spring" by La Amistad and designed by Javier Castejón became Queen Raquel Sánchez in 2004, a title that would have a year later Mayca Egea with "The Abyss of Jhelf", the Housewives, designed By Eustaquio Espinosa.

Cristina Tudela was the Queen of 2006 with "Diamante glistening" and Nerea Alegria in 2007 with "Epicentro del Carnaval", both with the comparsa La Amistad y disño by Javier Castejón.

In 2008 the winner was Maria Hueso with "The Dream of Gaia Mother Nature", comparsa Los Molinos and design by Eustaquio Prisons, a tandem that also made Iris Alcáraz win in 2009 with "Lithuania Ice Goddess".

The last Queen of the Pinatarense Carnival was in 2010 Isabel López with "La Perla del Mar Menor", of the comparsa La Amistad and design by Javier Castejón.

The gala ended with the presentation of the nine local comparsas that parade Sunday.

In addition, the audience was able to enjoy the choreographies of ballets Kimbara, Antares and Kebanna.

The carnival continues today in San Pedro del Pinatar with activities for the little ones until 20:00 hours in the Plaza de la Constitución and will have its final brooch on Sunday, from 17:00 hours, with the great parade of Carnival.

In addition, until Tuesday, February 28, the exhibition "A look at the past" can be visited in the municipal museum Barón de Benifayó, which gathers the history of Carnival in the locality.
