The beach of Villananitos enables a zone of bath adapted for people with reduced mobility (13/07/2017)

This beach area, which already had an accessible point, improves services aimed at this group with an island bathing platform, an aquatic walkway and another rigid walkway to the bathroom area.

The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, together with the director general of the Mar Menor, Antonio Luengo, and the president of the Federation of Associations of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities (FAMDIF), Carmen Gil, visited today the new Bath area adapted for people with reduced mobility on the beach of Villananitos.

The City of San Pedro del Pinatar has improved the services for people with reduced mobility in this beach, which already had an accessible point, equipped with adapted equipment and services, such as crutches and amphibious chairs, shaded area, walkways, toilet and Lavapiés adapted and a parking area reserved for people with disabilities.

The mayor explained that the objective of this new facility is to enable bathers with reduced mobility to enjoy the beach and the sea in the best possible conditions.

Thus, this new installation is formed by an island bathing platform, which is an anchored structure of benches and shade within the water, which allows the simultaneous bathing of up to 22 people sitting in it.

The installation also guarantees stability and buoyancy, without risk of displacement by waves.

This island is complemented by a non-slip water walkway that facilitates access to this bathing platform and also allows the wandering within the water of people with reduced mobility.

In the sand area, the wooden walkway has been completed with a rigid walkway that reaches the water slide and facilitates access to the bathroom for users of amphibious chairs and crutches.

San Pedro del Pinatar has two accessible points equipped according to the Regional Plan for Accessibility in Beaches of 2004-2006, in Villananitos and La Puntica, which in recent years have been increasing their endowment and infrastructure by the hand of Famdif to offer a better Service for disabled users.

Thus, during the last years the City Council has worked to improve the accessibility of these points, increasing the number of available amphibious chairs, improving the shade area and living area, expanding the wooden walkways and connecting them with the water sheet through The installation of concrete stretches to facilitate the access to the sea and enabling a platform of access to the dressing room in the beach of Villananitos.
