San Pedro del Pinatar has celebrated today one of its great days, with a multitudinous pilgrimage on foot from San Pedro to Lo Pagán and a maritime procession with hundreds of boats accompanying the "Star of the Seas".

The municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar celebrates today one of the festivities with more roots and tradition, a pilgrimage by land and sea in honor of the Virgin of the Carmen, who turns 125 years and in which fishermen and faithful, accompanied by thousands of neighbors And visitors, transfer their image from San Pedro del Pinatar to Lo Pagán.

The festival, which dates back to the 18th century in the municipality, began at 7:00 a.m. with a bullfight in the streets of San Pedro del Pinatar, followed an hour later by a large mass campaign in the Plaza de la Constitución.

Thousands of people have been part of the pilgrimage that at 9:00 am departed from the church of San Pedro Apóstol to the port of Lo Pagan, making stops at the altars that neighbors and fishermen raise in honor of the Virgin and in which Has returned to listen to the Salve Marinera, toned this time by faithful and fishermen.

This year, and on the occasion of the 125th anniversary, in addition to the traditional stops, the image of the Virgin has made a stop in front of the large mural made in her honor by the artists of the Company of Mario on the avenue Romería de la Virgen del Carmen .

The president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitation Martinez and the major patron of the Fishermen's Guild, Jesús Antonio Gómez, were in charge of opening the procession with representatives of the Virgin Association Del Carmen and other civil and military positions.

The traditional "tronaera" has announced the entrance of the Virgin in the Port of Lo Pagan and has ended the tour.

The ship, "Caricano" by Rubén Albaladejo, a member of the Fishermen's Guild, was commissioned to embark this year the image of the patron saint on her way through the Mar Menor.

The Virgin has been escorted by hundreds of fishing and recreational boats, decked out for the occasion and crowded with worshipers who, after a prayer, have thrown carnations overboard in memory of the deceased sea men.

Later a minute of silence has been kept, which has broken with the sirens of the ships.

In addition, during the journey has been made a pass of the Eagle Patrol that has drawn the flag of Spain overflying the procession.

Before landing and on the occasion of this important anniversary, the Eagle Patrol has made a spectacular display of acrobatic flight in front of the beach of La Puntica.

In addition, the attendees have also been able to enjoy an exhibition on the float of Latin sailing ships, a typical boat of the Mar Menor, next to the Center of Nautical Activities.

Subsequently, a Campaign Mass was held at the Lo Pagán Fish Market, before the image was transferred to the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Lo Pagán.

The day ends this morning with the procession back to San Pedro del Pinatar, starting at midnight, which also closes an extensive program of events in honor of the Virgin of Carmen on this anniversary.
