The City Council of San Pedro del Pinatar has received the "Green Iglú" award, which recognizes the commitment of citizens and catering professionals with the recycling of glass, which this summer reached, through the Ecovidrio campaign, 190 tons, 18% more than in 2016.

The Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the Councilor for the Environment, today received the "Green Iglú" award, from Ecovidrio's area manager, Roberto Fuentes, for the municipality's commitment to glass recycling .

The comprehensive recycling plan in summer of Ecovidrio, the non-profit organization responsible for the management of the recycling of glass packaging waste in Spain, and the City of San Pedro del Pinatar has managed to recycle 190 tons of glass during the summer , 18% more than in the same period of the previous year.

San Pedro del Pinatar has received the 'Green Igloo' award for having exceeded the figure of glass recycling compared to the previous year.

The award is a recognition of the commitment of citizens and catering professionals with glass recycling and sustainability.

Ecovidrio has increased the scope and dimension of the comprehensive glass recycling plan in the summer period, an initiative that aims to raise awareness in the hospitality industry and increase the data on glass recycling during the summer months.

In this edition, a total of 68 catering establishments of San Pedro del Pinatar have collaborated with the entity, an important fact given the influence of the hospitality sector, which generates 50% of the waste of single-use glass containers.

In addition, the summer season is vital for the recycling of glass, a period in which 30% of the total recycled glass is collected during the year.

The results obtained have been achieved thanks to the collaboration of the hospitality professionals of San Pedro del Pinatar and the provision of resources by Ecovidrio.

With the aim of facilitating citizen collaboration, 27 cubes have been delivered adapted to the needs of hospitality professionals and the frequency of glass collection has been extended to adequately manage the increase in activity in this sector.
