San Pedro del Pinatar calls for the involvement of the entire society to fight gender violence (24/11/2017)

The Plaza del Ayuntamiento has hosted today a commemorative event on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which has had the participation of the educational community.

The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Francisca Pelegrín, today chaired the commemorative event on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is celebrated on November 25.

During the ceremony, held this morning in the Plaza Luis Molina, in front of the City Council, a minute of silence has been saved in memory of the 44 women who died in 2017 due to gender violence.

In this commemoration have been present representatives of the Municipal Corporation, municipal workers, neighbors and students the schools Villa Alegría, Los Pinos, Las Esperanzas, San Pedro Apóstol, Los Antolinos and Manuel Tárraga Escribano and Dos Mares institutes.

Francisca Pelegrín has reiterated the commitment of the City Council to continue working daily in the training of professionals, prevention in risk groups and intervention with the families of Pinatarenses that require it.

For its part, the mayor has read the institutional manifesto, which this year is a wake-up call about the need not to turn away from abuse, urging both citizens and public administrations to act in unison and show a society united against violence, committed to equality and justice.

It has also had an impact on prevention and education based on values ​​of equality, as the best way to avoid violence in adult relationships and generate an attitude of rejection of any type of abuse.

The mayor concluded with an emphasis on social involvement in the fight against abuse: "If you do not listen to gender violence, you do not observe and shut up ... you contribute to aggravate the problem, you also depend on helping your solution".

The act has ended with the reading of a story based on a case of violence, by students of the IES Manuel Tárraga Escribano, and the sample of the work done by the students of the IES Dos Mares against gender violence and claiming equality real gender.
