The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar defends the policy on tourism and the good path of the sector in the municipality (26/01/2018)

Visitación Martínez has reported today in the plenary of San Pedro del Pinatar the participation of the municipality in the International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2018, held January 17 to 21 in Madrid, aimed at strengthening the tourism campaign of the town this year "Paraíso Salado, Enjoy it as a family", showing the attractions offered by the municipality throughout the year.

During its participation in the Fair, the municipality delved into the campaign "Salt Paradise", which shows the beauty of the landscapes of the Regional Park of Salinas and Arenales, the importance of the salt industry in the town, the benefits of outdoor lodge area, kilometers of beaches to the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor or the rich and varied local gastronomy, all under the common denominator of salt.

Other initiatives were also supported to position the Mar Menor as a priority tourist destination, such as the presentation of the V Mar Menor Classic Race.

Throughout the fair, the mayor and the Councilor for Tourism, Silvia Egea, made promotional and dissemination activities of this tourist offer in different Autonomous Communities, such as media campaigns in the region, Castilla La Mancha, Castilla León, Madrid or the Basque country.

Work meetings were also held with professionals from the sector such as positioning companies, tour operators, etc.

In the plenary session, a detailed account was given of the expenditure destined to the tourist promotion in this Fair, one of the main international showcases of the tourist sector.

In this regard, the Councilor for Tourism, Siliva Egea, has detailed the advertising campaign on radio and television, of different media groups, which have been developed within the framework of FITUR 2018.

Regarding the criticism of the spokesperson of Citizens in the municipality, the mayor, Visitation Martinez, has defended the policy on tourism of the municipal government and stressed that "in the last five years hotel occupancy has increased by more than 13 points the annual average, growing in all the months of the year, thus advancing towards the long-awaited deseasonalization of the sector ".

Regarding the immediate results of the participation in FITUR required by José Luis Ros, the mayor asked himself "if after seven years as a councilor he does not know that the contracts of a public administration involve a prior administrative procedure", and he has affirmed that "The only publicity trip was that of the Citizens' spokesperson, whose only objective was to criticize the Regional Government's campaign and to despise the presentation of San Pedro del Pinatar, in which he was not even present."
