The municipal Emergency Service attended over 10,000 calls last year (02/02/2011)

Emergency Service and Civil Protection of the Municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar (SEM) attended in 2010 a total of 9,893 calls, of which 4,392 were related to public safety and public, 1,622 were referred to medical emergency, over 1,410 incidents traffic, 1,214 civil protection and rescue at sea, 524 the municipal towing, 443 and 288 services to municipal fire and rescue.

As to the time of year, most of the ads, 3,381 calls were recorded in the third quarter, coinciding with the summer season when the city recorded a significant increase in population due to tourism.

Thus, on most matters were handled was on July 30, when the SEM served 60 notices.

In relation to the days of the week, most of these announcements occurred on weekends, with 1,527 calls on Saturday and 1,502 Sunday.

In the area of Security and Public Citizen, an annual review of SEM shows a significant decline in public safety consultations, which last of 2,258 in 2009 to 1,094 last year and warnings related to noise, which fell by half , going from 685 to 356.

Other issues in this area managed by the SEM were issues related to animals (374 calls), paperwork lost (183) and disappearances (49), among others.

Of the 1,410 calls related to trafficking, 266 were due to accidents, compared to 343 of 2009, and 128 services were injured in incidents where there is a slight increase, compared to 120 last year.

Moreover, the total of 1,622 emergency and health emergencies served, 1,397 were operated by the Health Care Unit (SAMU), of which 241 emergency trauma, 150 accidents, 116 intervention firefighters, 63 emergency room for pain , 59 shipments, 55 ailments, 55 citizen services and public safety, 35 and 33 emergency digestive immersion syndrome, among others.

During the summer, the SAMU was supported by a unit of Advanced Life Support (ALS), endowed by the Health Service of Murcia and was attended by a doctor, a nurse and an ambulance driver, who answered 225 calls, which 104 were medical emergencies, 23 traffic accidents, 18 injuries, 14 requests for ambulance and 12 immersion syndrome.

As the area of Civil Protection, which conducted 1,214 performances, this year we have included steps school services, in support of the local police, and transport users of Day Care Center of Lo Pagan.

Also, from Civil Protection preventive actions have been performed, drills and intervention in incidents related to power outages, water and telephone networks.

Moreover, the Forest Watch Special Plan, developed by volunteers between June and September, managed 512 performances, of which 245 were informative, but also made efforts to support effective monitoring beaches, emergency, local police and firefighters.

The SEM also has addressed the coverage of surveillance and rescue on the beaches of San Pedro del Pinatar, coordinated by the regional plan COPLA, who had 21 points for monitoring and closed with 4,430 incidents, including assists highlighted stings, wounds, and support service for the disabled, among others.

Municipal Emergency Service of San Pedro del Pinatar is composed of 25 professionals who are divided into the areas of preventive services, surveillance and rescue; CECOPAL room 112 and the municipal ambulance service, built in 2010, and a technical office and the municipal pool of volunteers, which last year consisted of 75 people.

During 2010, the SEM also created the Rescue Dog Unit and scheduled training activities in schools and colleges of the city, where 4,000 children and youth learn healthy patterns of behavior in the aquatic environment.
