The City Council about its history, traditions and school environment of the municipality (11/03/2015)

The departments of Education and Tourism scheduled for this quarter a series of talks on the Mar Menor and the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar, historical and tourist development of the municipality and cultural holiday traditions in the Mar Menor

School third through sixth graders from schools St. Peter the Apostle, Los Pinos, Villa Joy, Nuestra Señora del Carmen, The Hopes and Maspalomas, and the small child of the School No.1 know this quarter its history, natural environment and traditions, through didactic lectures by staff of the Department of Tourism.

Thus, during the month of March is carrying out the talk "The Mar Menor and the salt flats of San Pedro del Pinatar" in which it is intended that the students know the special features of this space.

This activity also aims to make children aware of some protected species in the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean and make them aware of how important salt mining for the survival of Salinas Natural Park and Arenales de San Pedro.

During the talk, a brief reference to the Mar Menor and fisheries, aquaculture and seahorses, endangered species and sea grasses, other protected species that is abundant on the shores of the Mediterranean beaches is performed.

Children actively participate in this discussion where also known trivia about the salt extraction process or the different ways in which it is presented.

This cycle will continue with talks about the historical and tourist development of the municipality.

The goal is that smaller as San Pedro del Pinatar transformed in the last 100 years, setting the physiognomy of the municipality, the current tourism and cultural identity.

Children can see photographs of various trades of yesteryear, as well as objects such as oil lamps, coffee mills, espadrilles, jugs, etc.

Another talk will focus on the cultural traditions of the region festive Main Sea as the festival of the Virgen del Carmen and Easter Pinatarense, but also the feast of San Blas in San Javier, the Berber raids in Los Alcazares, or Carthaginians and Romans Cartagena, among others.

In addition, reference to the origin of these parties will be done in this paper, their dates which are of tourist interest, the common features and peculiarities of each.
