The Civil Guard seizes 120 kilos of "pezqueñines" in the fishing port of San Pedro del Pinatar (21/01/2009)

Having established its suitability for consumption, the fish will be delivered at a charity.

Service agents Nature Conservation (SEPRONA) of the Guardia Civil yesterday seized a total of 121 kilos of anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) in the fishing port of San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia) by not reach the minimum size allowed for harvest and marketing (9 inches if its origin is the Mediterranean Sea).

The actions took place when a SEPRONA Patrol based in Torre Pacheco was carrying out surveillance in the said port facilities and a boat, noticing the presence of the officers, abruptly left the place, leaving the immature fish isothermal inside the trailer which had just been loaded.

The anchovy, only 7 inches long, has been made available to the Directorate General of Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water in the Region of Murcia, and will be delivered to a charity after stating that it is capable for consumption by the competent veterinary services.

The boat's skipper and owner of the trailer isotherm, which was later located by the SEPRONA, has been reported to the Directorate General for violations relating to administrative regulations of the minimum sizes of fish species
