The 2020 Budget of San Pedro del Pinatar focuses on the protection of the Mar Menor (16/12/2019)

The budget project of the City Council of San Pedro del Pinatar includes more than 1.3 million euros in infrastructure for the environmental protection of the Mar Menor, and more than 170,000 euros in additional measures and aid for the affected sectors.

The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, highlighted today the main aspects included in the municipal budget for the year 2020, which amounts to 25.99 million euros and will be discussed tomorrow, Tuesday 17 September, by the full of the Corporation.

The mayor, Visitación Martínez, stressed that the Mar Menor and the support for the sectors affected by the crisis are the pillars of the 2020 budget, as reflected in the investments, which this year amount to 3.18 million euros, of which 1.3 million euros are allocated to infrastructure aimed at the environmental protection of the Mar Menor, such as the renovation of the promenades (700,000 euros) and the revision and renovation of the rainwater and sanitation networks (575,000 euros) .

In addition, the budget includes 30 additional measures to support the fishing, commercial and tourism sectors, which amount to 171,500 euros in the year 2020.

Thus, 71,000 euros are allocated to the fishing sector;

with 40,000 euros of extraordinary aid for fishermen who have not received aid from other administrations, 21,000 euros directly for the maintenance of the fishermen's association and the Museum of the Sea and 10,000 euros for the promotion of artisanal fisheries.

For the commercial sector, an additional 30,000 euros are allocated for training, advice, and modernization.

Meanwhile, 50,000 euros are earmarked for promotional activities of the municipality and all the sectors affected.

Likewise, the budget includes 128,000 for trade and 510,000 euros destined directly to the tourism sector, which include investments such as the renovation of the sludge area and interactive information points, in addition to spending on services such as beach cleaning throughout the year, promotion at fairs, etc.

The mayor said that these are realistic, rigorous and truthful budgets, which have as fundamental axes the protection of the Mar Menor and the support to the different sectors affected.

As for the statements of the spokesman for Citizens, the mayor has stressed "the lack of rigor that, once again, shows the councilor, which does not conform to the actual data contained in the budget."

"He accuses us of making measures for the gallery but Citizens has not made a single proposal or alternative to the Budgets either before or during the Special Accounts Commission, showing that it is his group that makes headline policy," he said. concluded.
