More than 500 athletes meet at the Spanish grappling championship held in San Pedro del Pinatar (30/01/2020)

The championship will be held on February 1 and 2 in the Prince of Asturias pavilion of the local municipal sports center and will concentrate the best fighters in this discipline throughout the national territory.

The Councilor for Sports of San Pedro del Pinatar, Pedro Vivancos, the president of the Federation of Olympic Wrestling and associated disciplines of the Region of Murcia, José María López, and the pinatarense Nico Medina, current champion of Spain of Grappling, presented the Championship from Spain of Grappling to be held on February 1 and 2 in the town.

The Councilor for Sports has explained that this competition will bring together more than 500 athletes from all over Spain this weekend in the town, and has highlighted the importance, at the sports and tourism level, that this type of sporting events has for the municipality.

For this reason, he thanked the Murcia Federation for its commitment to the municipality, in addition to highlighting the figure of the athlete from Medina Nico Medina, Spain champion of Grappling and Grappling Gi in 2019 and European champion IBJJF.

For his part, José María López explained that this competition will include fighting from the lower to the senior categories and that it can be seen live through the Spanish Wrestling Federation channel, and the finals of the top categories in LaligaSports.

Likewise, it has highlighted the large delegation of athlete from the Region, with 70 competitors, of which 20 are from the municipal school of San Pedro del Pinatar.

He also recalled that this competition will be the national team that represents Spain in upcoming international events.

The athlete Nico Medina has been excited to be able to play the Spanish championship in his hometown, where he will try to revalidate his titles in both Grappling and Grappling Gi categories.

Medina has invited all sports enthusiasts to enjoy this competition this weekend and has explained the peculiarities of this sport, a mixture of martial arts and fighting, still little known but that gains more and more followers every day.

The Spanish Grappling Championship will be held on Saturday, February 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday, February 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Prince of Asturias municipal pavilion ( Avda. Los Antolinos).
