The local Volunteering program of San Pedro del Pinatar brings together the experiences of more than 320 people since 2012 (27/02/2020)

The Social Services center has hosted a meeting with volunteers who are currently participating in social, educational, sports or cultural projects, among others.

The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, the Councilor for Citizen Participation and Volunteering, Zoilo Ballester and the technician responsible for the volunteer program of the UMU Diversity and Volunteering Service, María José Carrillo, have maintained a meeting with municipal volunteers to share experiences and new projects.

Thus, the mayor recalled that since 2012 in San Pedro del Pinatar the social and civic volunteer project "Discover the best of you, become a volunteer" has been developed, through which more than 320 volunteers have passed with whom this program has been growing and adapting to their needs and suggestions.

He has also pointed out that, thanks to the collaboration agreement with the service of attention to diversity and volunteering of the University of Murcia, a total of 60 university volunteers have developed their voluntary action in municipal initiatives of educational, sports, social, etc.

For its part, Zoilo Ballester has highlighted the programs currently underway, such as education assistants, school monitors in English, volunteers in sports activities, volunteers for culture, participating in activities in the library and the Baron Museum of Benifayó, and those who collaborate in the residences of the greatest Messengers of La Paz and Villademar.

It has also highlighted the work of volunteers who carry out school reinforcement for the prevention of absenteeism, those who collaborate with children and the nursery in summer, those who promote equality between men and women and the "Volunteers for integration", initiative that is developed by the hand of AIDEMAR.

On the other hand, María José Carillo explained the UMU social and volunteer projection service, which has been operating for 25 years and that works together with more than 200 NGOs and municipalities to open lines that allow students to carry out this work enriching both on and off campus, always adapting it to your academic priorities.

Subsequently, many of the volunteers present have presented their experiences and provided suggestions for this program to last and also reach more and more people.
