San Pedro del Pinatar focuses municipal resources on the fight against the expansion of the Coronavirus (31/03/2020)

The Mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, has taken stock of the actions and measures carried out by the local administration to deal with the health crisis of COVID-19.

Since last March 11, the day the World Health Organization elevated the situation caused by COVID19 to an international pandemic, the San Pedro del Pinatar City Council has adopted measures initially aimed at reducing mobility and the concentration of public spaces and, later, to enforce the State of Alarm and care for people affected by the disease, as well as those most vulnerable groups.

Visitación Martínez has indicated that, according to the latest data published by the Ministry of Health through the Murcia Health portal, the number of people infected by COVID-19 in the Region amounts to 920 cases, of which 9 are registered in the municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar.

In addition, almost 200 patients from the locality are currently under medical supervision by primary care, presenting any symptom compatible with the virus.

As for the tasks of citizen security, the Local Police of San Pedro del Pinatar has imposed, since last March 14, a total of 166 complaints for driving, on foot or by car, for reasons other than those permitted by the decree Alarm State.

In the prevention area, fumigation, cleaning and disinfection work has been intensified on a daily basis through the concessionaires for street cleaning, garbage collection and maintenance of parks and gardens, focusing on the most risky places such as areas with shops allowed to open, health center, transport stops, squares and other public spaces, containers, etc.

Last Saturday, March 28, several farmers in the municipality voluntarily and disinterestedly joined in these tasks.

In the healthcare area, the coordination of Emergencies and Civil Protection stands out.

Thus, a direct help service was launched to people isolated for health reasons related to the Coronavirus, with 40 services being provided for the dispensing of basic necessities.

In addition, Emergencies has attended a total of 190 calls related to COVID-19 and, among other actions, is carrying out a distribution service from the Los Arcos Pharmacy to hospital drug patients and coordinating various solidarity actions for the preparation , collection and distribution of sanitary protection material.

Thus, thanks to 150 volunteer seamstresses, more than 7,000 masks have already been developed and distributed to residences, health centers and municipal services. Dozens of protection screens are also being developed, in collaboration with the IES Manuel Tárraga Escribano. collecting diving masks, to adapt them to treatments for patients with coronavirus, together with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

Within the Municipal Emergency Plan, a free psychological care service has also been created, provided by professional volunteers who have supported 32 people.

From the Department of Social Welfare, all services have also been adapted to this exceptional situation, thus, the Home Care Service has provided 58 assistance, 14 of it to elderly people or dependents who are not users of it, to help them in the acquisition of food, medicine and other basic necessities.

In addition, telephone assistance has been intensified, carrying out 554 follow-ups on vulnerable people and groups and processing 88 aid for the purchase of food, hygiene products, cleaning and personal hygiene, and medicines.

The local government team has also approved various fiscal measures that aim to mitigate the economic consequences that the coronavirus pandemic may cause to residents.

These measures focus on the postponement and suspension of the fiscal calendar for the Vehicle Tax (IVTM), the Real Estate Tax (IBI) and the Economic Activities Tax (IAE), setting a new collection period after the Alarm State .

The suspension of the collection of taxes and rates of home help service, telecare, day centers, fords, cemeteries or weekly market.

San Pedro del Pinatar will also discount the IBI fee to those businesses or companies affected by the suspension of their activity, proportionally to the closing time of the same, conditioned to the maintenance of at least 75 percent of the average workforce during 2020. The water supply and sewerage taxes and garbage collection will also be reduced for these establishments for a quarterly period.

The City Council will subsidize the proportional part to the rates of the weekly market, the Popular University, the morning classroom and for the use of sports facilities.

Measure that will also be extended to the exploitation contracts for seasonal services, services, etc.

The mayor added that all municipal services continue to provide citizen attention via telephone or internet, carrying out recreational, educational, sports and leisure initiatives to make confinement for all people in Pinar del Rio more enjoyable.

Visitación Martínez has concluded with a thank you to all the people who fight to beat this virus, from the health professionals, to the bodies and state security forces, to the people who continue to work in basic and priority services, to the people who fight daily to overcome it, as well as the people of Pinar del Río in general, for their civility and responsibility in the face of this crisis.
