The San Pedro del Pinatar City Council strengthens and expands social care services during the pandemic (28/04/2020)

The Department of Social Welfare has reinforced the monitoring of groups at risk of exclusion, the processing of basic aid and the home help service during this period. The Department of Social Welfare of the City of San Pedro del Pinatar has adapted and reinforced all its services to deal with the health, economic and social crisis caused by the coronavirus, the mayor of the area, Fuensanta García, reported today, who noted that For any query or request for help, the single telephone number for Social Services is 968 180 388. Thus, among other measures, the monitoring of people in situations of special vulnerability, such as the elderly or dependents without family support, victims of violence, families with minors at risk, etc; making more than 2,000 calls to them, in order to meet their demands and needs as quickly as possible. As for the elderly and dependents, Social Welfare has reinforced the Home Help service with Day Center assistants, to serve both regular users of this service, and other specific care for people who, during the crisis, need this kind of help. Since March 18, home care workers have provided 132 support services in the purchase of food, purchase of medications, household chores, personal hygiene, etc. On the other hand, the municipal technicians of the Department of Social Welfare attend to the demands of those people or families without economic resources, mainly of basic necessity products, coordinating this action with the suppliers of these products in the locality, and with the collaborating associations with the food bank, to facilitate maximum access to them and to minimize displacement and possible risk. Thus, 644 aid has been processed directly during this period for the purchase of food, cleaning and personal hygiene products, medicines and other basic necessities. Fuensanta García, has also reported that the initial budget planned for Social Services in the financial year 2020 has tripled, reaching 350,000 euros, aimed at reinforcing and meeting the basic needs of all people from Pinar del Río that require it, given the social and economic impact of the health crisis.
