San Pedro del Pinatar reinforces actions to combat the proliferation of the tiger mosquito (30/04/2020)

The concessionaire company, in coordination with the Department of the Environment, has reinforced larvicidal treatments in public areas, scuppers and grids throughout the municipality since April 13, and in the waterlogged areas of the Regional Park, in addition to acting against the population adult of this insect in parks and green areas. The Department of the Environment and the concessionaire company of the Pest Control Service in the municipality, Belmonte Environmental Hygiene, have reinforced this week the treatments programmed for the control of mosquitoes in the town, after the proliferation of this insect as a consequence of the rains and increasing temperature. These actions began on April 13 with the performance of larvicidal treatments in public areas of the municipality, such as grids, scuppers, lots, storm tanks, Regional Park of Salinas and Arenales, etc. Due to the rains and the rise in temperatures, which cause mosquito populations to develop in areas with standing water, these treatments have been reinforced during the last week throughout the municipality, also carrying out a shock treatment against adult mosquitoes in parks.

and green areas of the town. Also during this week, oviposition traps have been placed within the regional tiger mosquito surveillance system, a study in which the City Council has been participating for years and which aims to know the population and situation of the mosquito in each municipality to subsequently optimize the treatments against the tiger mosquito. The abundant rains that have fallen in the last few months and the fact that many second-home homes remain closed, cause these outbreaks of mosquitoes to proliferate in swimming pools, fountains, gardens, etc. From the Department of Environment remember the importance of citizen collaboration to avoid mosquito breeding sites in private areas, eliminating any source of stagnant water within their properties.
