The plenary session of San Pedro del Pinatar approves the motion to urge the Government of Spain not to appropriate the resources of local entities (06/08/2020)

The ordinary plenary session of August held this morning has approved by majority, with the votes in favor of PP, Citizens and Vox and abstention of the Socialist group, the motion to safeguard the savings accumulated during the last 8 years by the City CouncilThis morning, the ordinary plenary session in August, approved by majority with the votes in favor of the Popular Party, Citizens and Vox and the abstention of the Socialist Party, the motion to urge the Government of Spain not to appropriate the resources of the local entities. Thus, the Councilor for Finance, José Fernández Andreo, has indicated that, since the start of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, local entities have put in place measures to contain the spread of the virus and preserve the health of public employees and neighbors.

They were also pioneers in putting in place measures to mitigate the effects of the health, social and economic crisis derived from the pandemic.According to the motion, this extraordinary effort made by local governments has not been reciprocated by the government of Spain.

On the contrary, according to what was stated in the Plenary session today, the government of Spain intends that the Town Halls and Provincial Councils provide "all" of the savings accumulated during the last 8 years and, in exchange, it will only allow spending, for two years , a third of the money and exclusively in those actions that the government has previously defined. In this sense, the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez, described this measure as an "unacceptable blackmail" since the money loaned will be returned by the government over the next 15 years, although the proposal excludes the calendar of payments, which means that local entities will not be able to use all of their savings during the next decade and, therefore, their financial asphyxia.

In addition, the proposal includes several of the measures requested by local entities in these months that will only be implemented if previously it is agreed to lend all of the municipality's savings to the government.
