| The environmental organization maintains that the proximity to protected areas and the qualification of the soil make the project unviable | They propose to find an alternative location within the municipality, where there are no risks to the environment and nature, as well as floods. Ecologists in Action has presented before the San Pedro del Pinatar City Council, allegations to the construction project of a "Building for a 5-star hotel in the Los Imbernones area", better known as the project of Pinatar Arena hotel. In his writing, he begins by mentioning the incompatibility of the urban project in the indicated area, since it is land classified as Non-Urbanizable, which would require looking for an alternative location.

In addition, given the extension and complexity of the proposal, it is evident that it requires a comprehensive management, formulating and approving a Special Plan, where, among other aspects, the availability of land for accesses is justified. On the other hand, they consider that the environmental impact study is very deficient because it does not have an exhaustive study on the possible impact on the fauna of key species identified in the Natura 2000 Network Protected Areas Management Plan, despite to be located in the vicinity of several protection figures, such as the Regional Park of the Salinas and Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, the SCI and ZEPA with the same name, and even partially invade the Wetland of the RAMSAR del Mar agreement Minor, for which protected waterfowl are of utmost importance. This construction project in the proposed location, would practically fully urbanize the perimeter of the Regional Park of Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, by adding to the existing constructions, and would entail the isolation of the protected area, something that would have a negative impact on the species that inhabit it. The organization also warns of another important fact that can constitute a high risk for the environment, as well as for people and property: the project is located in the middle of the flood zone between San Pedro and El Moj n. This makes the area an important natural environment for the flora and fauna of the perimeter wetlands of the salty lagoon, but it also means building in an area with a high probability of flooding, which poses an unnecessary risk, both for people as for goods.

On the other hand, the flooding of urbanized areas poses environmental risks. For this reason, for Ecologists in Action it would be a tremendous irresponsibility to approve said project, and this is how art.

14 bis of the Regulation of the Public Hydraulic Domain, which orders to choose locations outside of flood zones. Therefore, Ecologistas en Acci n has asked the City Council of San Pedro del Pinatar, not to authorize this project in the proposed location, and instead make a Modification of the PGMO aimed at its conservation and above all its ecological restoration, not limited to the 200-meter strip from the Park.
