The Director General of Tourism inaugurated the new San Pedro Archaeological Museum (21/12/2010)

The Director General of Tourism, Marina Garcia, together with the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, José María García, and the councilman of Culture, Mark David Gracia, today presided over the inauguration of the new home of the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of the locality, Housed in the Palace Benifayó Baron.

During his speech, Garcia expressed his satisfaction with the state museum and the quality of their pieces, which are fossils and paleontological objects, Iberians, Romans, medieval and Islamic.

The space also has an underwater archeology section, with material from the offshore area and other parts ethnographic groups of the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, such as ration cards of the Civil War, letters, photographs and other representative elements of the region.

Through this route, said the director general, visitors can learn the history of San Pedro and the Mar Menor in an educational and informative.

Also, Garcia alluded to the beauty of the building that houses the exhibition, the Russian House, a palace restored by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Commonwealth of the Mar Menor Tourism between 2006 and 2009.
