Cerdá ensures that the Region of Murcia has the most complete model of water treatment in Spain and Europe " (08/07/2009)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, said today that "the Region of Murcia has the most complete model of water purification of Spain and Europe."

The owner of Agriculture and Water made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the purification of San Javier, which was chaired by the Minister for Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, Elena Espinosa.

Water Murcia responsible said that "the criteria of sanitation and water treatment in the Murcia region than the EU directives" and in this regard stated that "we are applying a model similar to debug Water Code of the State of California."

Cerdá recalled that the treatment plants in the region employ mostly the tertiary system, "a level that is above the European required."

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new plant, the owner of Agriculture and Water regional government said the water treatment "serves a dual purpose," adding that his treatment influences "in both environmental improvement and in availability of new resources suitable for agriculture with the highest quality. "

Cerda said that the infrastructure put in place under the General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Region of Murcia allow "98 percent of our population is connected to a sewage generation."

Also added that "we are a leader in this area," which, he said, "we are legitimate to ask the water we need."

The Minister of Agriculture and Water said that the new treatment plant of San Javier, along with the Los Alcazares and San Pedro del Pinatar, the latter built by the regional government, "is integrated drainage and water treatment system of the Mar Menor" with which "will be achieved zero discharge and will ensure the water quality of the salt lake."

The San Javier meets the standards set by the General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Region of Murcia.

The exploitation of this new treatment plant is for the Bank of cleansing and purifying of the Region of Murcia, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water.

Visit to the treatment plant in San Pedro del Pinatar

The Minister of Environment and Rural and Marine, along with the Minister of Agriculture and Water treatment plants also visited Los Alcazares and San Pedro del Pinatar.

The plant, part of the landscape of the Regional Park of Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, is covered and deodorized, and uses the tertiary treatment system that allows results comparable to treated water purification.

The plant of San Pedro, which opened in 2007 by the President of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, has a treatment volume of 20,000 cubic meters of water per day, equivalent to a population of 133,000 inhabitants.
