I Nautical Week "Clásica del Mar Menor" (13/07/2009)

What is the classic of the Mar Menor?

The classic del Mar Menor is a sporting, cultural and tourist-class, a week of racing, full of cultural activities, all related to the sea with their offices, their traditions, music, art and history.

It is a floating museum of classic and vintage boats, referring to the past.

An outdoor exhibition of true gems of the past where expectacularmente of these vessels can be enjoyed by a very large number of visitors.

This is an ambitious project, not only as an international sporting and media event, also being a cultural event of great significance in a region where the coastline has seen them and the boat races are a reference Latinos more than 100 years.

Two magnificent scenery on one hand an impressive display floating port and a spectacular light and color in the sea.

Which you can admire the beauty of sailboats and classic Latin and sailing over a hundred years.

A sporting event that contributes to the knowledge of naval history and nautical heritage recovery have been the foundation of our culture, capable of generating unusual excitement, a flurry of news and a really beautiful image of our region.

Becoming one of the highlights of summer in our coast.

Therefore, it is a great opportunity to unite, the feast of the Virgen del Carmen festival of sport, culture and tradition.

An important economic boost to all sectors of the tourist area and a shock first-class.

An annual international competition that lasts over time and that is an important meeting point in the Mediterranean in the concentrations of classic and vintage boats, as the Trofeo Almirante Conde de Barcelona in Palma de Mallorca, La Nioularge in St Tropez, Monaco e Imperia or Antigua in the Caribbean.

An important event that outweigh the economic and organizational efforts of sponsors, public agencies, authorities, shipowners and sailors, which fills all the expectations.

The variety of boats that these events together, showing that the recovery and restoration of our heritage is needed.

A Nautical Week around the feast of La Virgen del Carmen is the ideal complement to release our past, and share it with the sailors and the public attending the event.

Why in the Mar Menor?

The coast of Murcia and the Mar Menor, since time immemorial have been a scene of rivalry sailor, sometimes to conquer these lands, others to come early or bring to load goods from other ports, or simply to come before the auction and sell fish at the best price.

For whatever reason, the sea has always been a great race course.

With these premises it seems that no offense to anyone the potential of the Mar Menor to develop this type of competition is superb.

There's hardly a field in the world race from which it can be seen in the two banks a show of this grandeur.

And most importantly, in the Region of Murcia we have a fleet of 21 ships Latino spans and 42 spans, only in the Mediterranean and of itself constitute a proper class.

These boats are works of art, some of them over 70 years old, lovingly preserved by their owners.

The races of Latinos in Cartagena and the Mar Menor has been since ancient times an incentive sport among people of the sea.

See all the years this fleet sailing, skippered by seasoned sailors and as before continue to create great moments of excitement and rivalry.

Gather them all, most fleets Torrevieja, Alicante and Valencia, has become a realizable dream.

Recognize and help homeowners, hobbyists and clubs, the efforts made for many years to preserve these vessels and especially to maintain a tradition that each year brings a significant number of young sailors, who are the future of this art of navigating lateen sail.

We are in the most important axis of the Mediterranean race and placed to attract a significant number of vessels in ports are close to our region.

History of American Sailing

The origin of the Sail America is unknown.

Probably it was the Arabs who introduced it in the Mediterranean, but no one knows for sure.

What we do know for certain is that until the thirteenth century was used only in the Mediterranean.

The Dictionary of the Language of the Royal Academy Sailing defines America as "The triangular bend in the antenna, which often use small burden craft."

This definition refers to the contemporary Latin Vela, but fails at other times is empleba throughout the European coast, especially as large vessels mizzen.

As originally conceived as a working tool and not as a sport, as we know it.

The originality of the Sail America lies in the simplicity of your rig and have been the first candle-shaped knife in the world.

You must save the Latin form of a triangle, with a measure of length not exceeding the length of the boat.

Candles can be constructed in different tissues.

As the hull of a sailing boat America, should be made of wood, along the lines of traditional construction.

The perfection of his design has allowed to remain until today.

Competition

The possibility of concentrating a large number of boats of this nature and compete among themselves, meeting for classes, lengths, types of gear etc., Requires a financial and organizational effort very important.

We must bear in mind that moving any of them by land or sea, requires a great commitment from their owners and provide all the services and tie it is logical for the organization.

Fortunately in the Region of Murcia there are a number of classic and vintage boats.

We have about 35 boats of 21 Latino and 42 spans, all in perfect condition, it is difficult to see events of this category and another 30 boats among those considered vintage, classic and traditional atmosphere.

The possibility of bringing another 20 or 25 boats coming from other ports is real, as it is in such concentrations, the owners are willing to make a huge effort to be measured with boats in its class which is not usual.

Never in the entire coast from the east meet 50 or 60 ships sailing to America and less exposure time and in perfect harmony for a week.
