Tourism has earmarked more than 55,000 euros to development of the Roman site of La Raya, in San Pedro del Pinatar (03/02/2010)

The Director General of Tourism, Marina García, today visited the Roman site of La Raya in San Pedro del Pinatar, following refurbishment works have been carried out and where the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has allocated a total of 55,500 euros.

The action includes the creation of a tour of 7 km and a booklet explaining the route.

The Director General of Tourism, which was accompanied by the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, José María García, and Councillor for Tourism of the consistory, Marcos Garcia, explained that "the commitment the Department made in San Pedro del Pinatar is very important as through the Plan of Excellence funded the Mar Menor Tourism Initiatives Center, and also through a collaboration agreement has funded the restoration of the House of Federation, which will house the future of Archaeology and Ethnography Museum which will open soon ".

Garcia added that "from the Ministry we are committed not only by the sun and beach tourism, but also the cultural."

The performance held at the Roman site of La Raya has been the realization of pilings for the subsequent installation of a deck and cleaning and archaeological restoration.

This site, in which excavations have been conducted since 2002 until now, has brought to light numerous wall structures, as well as abundant ceramic material and painted stucco, among others.

The excavated at San Pedro del Pinatar corresponds to something more than a quarter of the ancient Roman city and is bounded on the north, by the same municipal boundary of San Pedro, marking a turn in the way of La Raya.

From here the village extends north into and the neighboring municipality of El Pilar de la Horadada.

To complement the enhancement of that site, has installed a network of signals forming a path of just over 7 kilometers long, which incorporates new cultural attractions and tourist routes and connecting existing Regional Park de las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar in the urban area of the municipality.

Taking the THALASIA Thalassotherapy Centre, you can visit the Visitors Center of Las Salinas Beach Tower Demolished, Cañada Real, the Roman site of Raya, and the Casa del Reloj.
